Climate change: the Contribution of the Alliance for Climate Action Argentina at COP26

For the purpose of discussing the challenge posed by climate change in our country, a meeting was held with the participation of lecturers who attended Glasgow.

Buenos Aires, November, 2021 – Within the framework of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26), the Alliance for Climate Action Argentina (ACAA)—an inter-institutional movement made up of non-state actors, provinces and municipalities committed to climate action and sustainable development—held the meeting “Argentina, climate change and COP26: how to contribute”.

The goal of such discussion board was to continue creating knowledge and sharing key information about the negotiation context and ACAA contributions in light of the challenge posed by climate change in our country.

With more than 80 attendants, the event included the participation of Nasha Cuello (Sustentabilidad Sin Fronteras), Paula Ellinger (Fundación Avina), Carlos Tanides (Fundación Vida Silvestre), and Martin Dapelo (Argentine Chamber of Renewable Energies). Moderation was in charge of Cruz Raux (Sustentabilidad Sin Fronteras) and Pilar Assefh (Periodistas x el Planeta).

The referents and experts discussed the challenges presented at COP26 and the role of non-governmental actors, as well as the work of the ACAA and its signatories, among other issues.

The Alliance for Climate Action Argentina was created by the end of 2018 and gathers 30% of the country’s economy, as estimated by Fundación Vida Silvestre Argentina. There are Alliances for Climate Action in 6 countries: Argentina, Vietnam, Australia, Brazil, Japan, Mexico, South Africa, and USA. It is a movement made up of universities, sub-national states (provinces and municipalities), companies and representatives of civil society, concerned about and committed to domestic and international climate action. The Alliance seeks to catalyze its impact by designing and implementing coordinated, joint actions that contribute to the compliance of commitments undertaken by Argentina at the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
